Last week we used our ‘Observation Door’ as inspiration to write our very first class poem. We went cloud watching!

This is our first draft, stay tuned for more poetry.

                                                                          Cloud Watching

I see a park, I see fire from a dragon

I see a dragon and an Indian style boat

I see a dragon, I see a boat, I see a big fluffy thing

I see a horse and a dragon

I see a crab, dragon, sea horse and an ant eater

I see a cheetah running to catch a submarine and a dragon

I see a white limousine, I see a big moustache, I see a dragon in a boat, I see a beetle that’s huge, I see a big monster’s head

I see a boat, I see a worm, I see a dragon breathing fire

I see a dragon breathing fire and a dog jumping

I see a moustache, I see a tornado, I see a ginormous car park with a car in it, a huge dragon head, I see a field, I see a dragon blowing fire at a boat

I see a whale, a crocodile’s mouth, mountains and an anchor

I see fish and a dog

I see a tuna fish

I see clouds, big clouds, big fat clouds, Indian style star boat, fire, smoke, storm clouds, stripes, fluffy clouds, tuna fish

I see a dog without legs, a puffy thing, I see a worm breathing fire, a flying fish, mountains, I see sherbet

I see a cloud turning into a beast and a cloud turning into a dolphin

I see a boat

I see an Indian style boat dragging a hot dog

I see a pirate ship shooting a canon

I see a mountain, hot dog and an Indian style boat

                                                                                                              I see a tornado

I see a blue white thing

I see a knife being thrown

I see an alien, snake, plane, worm and dog

I see King Kong, a jet and a spear

1/2E’s amazing poetry!

This week we started an exciting new unit on Poetry.

We have been reading and creating many different kinds of poems and 1/2E agrees that our favourite ones often use repetition, humour and rhyme to engage the reader.

This week we have been exploring where writers get their ideas and found that poems often hide in unexpected places – sometimes right in front of us in everyday things and the people in our lives!

Please enjoy reading 1/2E’s very first class poem that we created titled ‘Where Poetry Hides’.

Poetry hides

in the sand

at the beach

Poetry hides

in a sticky

porridge-tree

Poetry hides

in a sword

in a war

Poetry hides

in the music

of the jungle

Poetry hides

in the bones

of your body

Poetry hides

in your heart.

What a wonderful start to our unit!

If you are inspired to write or read any poems at home we would love you to bring them in and share them with the class!

Procedural Writing!

We have been learning all about how to write procedures in Writer’s Workshop. Today we finished our drafts and decided to ‘publish’ our pieces by making an ‘instructional video’. We used iMovie and added text, voice overs, music and special effects. It really made our writing come to life! We learnt from each other by connecting our iPads to the apple TVs and showing new things we discovered as we went along. We can’t wait to show you our videos at the iPad open morning next Wednesday (845am)!

Here is Harry sharing some things he’d discovered about how to change the transitions between scenes!

Our AMAZING iPad extravaganza!

1/2C are extremely lucky to be trailing a 1:1 iPad program in their room! We have been exploring how the iPads can help us with our learning. We have learnt about a fantastic program called ‘Showbie’, this program allows Cobie to set assignments for us, and they get sent to our OWN, individual iPads. Once we finish it, Cobie can see our word and send us feedback straight away!

We have also been using apps like ‘Explain Everything’ to record ourselves reading and to show evidence that we are achieving our Reading goals.

Next we are going to be filming some experiments for Science. We will also be recording our predictions and reflections about the science behind the experiment, then putting this together as an iMovie!

Author’s Chair

Today in 1/2S we explored the author’s chair. When sharing our writing with the class, we have been trying to use loud and clear voices to engage our audiences. Well done to everyone as improvement has been made across the entire class!

A big congratulations to Robbie, Zach and Tom for researching, drafting and publishing a great information report on sharks. 1/2S learnt a lot today, thanks boys.

Mixing Matter!

Yesterday all Level 2 students participated in our science incursion.

We learnt all about physical and chemical changes, we watched demonstrations by scientist Sandy and we got hands on with our own experiments!

We made our own yummy sherbet, watched the chemical change between bi-carb soda and vinegar and observed a physical change between salt and vinegar.

Term 4 Science Incursion

Welcome back to all students and their families!

This term Level 2 will be exploring the world of science including how chemicals change.

Week 2 is our Science Incursion! HWPS will be visited by the team from PrimeSci to explore the world of Mixing Matter!  All students will have the opportunity to get hands-on with the experiments.

If you wish for your child to participate, could you please fix up the payment via Compass before Thursday the 9th of October.

Looking forward to the term ahead
